Limited Edition Prints
For me, this series is about capturing one of those extraordinary moments outside of ordinary space-time, when the landscape is fractured between two worlds. It was the days when the snow began to fall in these mountains, but it hadn't yet managed to cover everything. This moment between two worlds is something that always intrigues me... and in the case of the first snow, it's a moment that only occurs for a few days, and I was lucky enough to be right there. Visually, the landscape was transformed into something extraordinary even in an Icelandic context. No grey-orange of autumn lichens, no pure white of the winter months. A world in between. The contrast of the black and white, the light filtering through the torn clouds, and the rawness of the lava landscape under the snow, all gave the impression of some surrealist painting, or like being in a painting of ink - fine lines, contrasts, shadows. Everything around it seemed unusual and fleeting. Part of the story of this series was how I got to the place that day. The terrain was difficult, the roads were already freshly covered in snow with drifts and in places impassable even with my four-wheeler. It was the last chance to get there, because in the evening when I left the park rangers had already closed the area and only special snowmobiles could enter. So it was a unique opportunity to capture a moment that really only lasts only for a few days, until the landscape is covered in a complete layer of whiteout. Behind the scenes: That day, the weather was crazy even for Icelandic standards, with changes from sunny day to snow storms in less than 20 minutes. So I was quite lucky to capture this high-resolution panorama under just right light conditions. (Note: this is a panoramatic photo)
