About this photo: Just being in Iceland gives you the feeling of being outside of your normal reality, of looking at it from a distance. But when I fly above the island itself, above its peninsulas, and find myself, at least with a drone, above the sea, there is suddenly a sense of being truly "above it" - literally and figuratively. Even something as majestic as these massifs can look much smaller, more graspable and understandable from above. Most of my photos play with abstraction, with rhythms and visual compositions that one has to discover. Here, it's immediately clear what we're looking at - a massif, surrounded by sea and sky. But it has a great significance for me because it shows that we can also take a distance from the concrete and look at it with a detached perspective. The photo still carries that moment when it allows us to move away... detach.. and suddenly everything is more bearable, more graspable, more readable... For me, this image is also very much about an expedition into the world of color. In editing, I worked with the saturation and brightness of the land and sea to remove the grey veil of late autumn and reveal a richness and vibrancy that may not have been visible there, but was fully present in my vision of this part of the world. Behind the scenes: From the perspective of Iceland, you are the beginning of the world and everything feels “down to the South”. The Hvalnes lighthouse is an area that definitely invites you to have a look from a bit away - for which you need a ship (I didn't have) or a drone (I had!). It was a wildly windy day and I was seriously concerned that the drone wouldn't come back from the sea, but it did and brought this amazing panorama with it. I had an extreme luck with good light and excellent wind and weather conditions…
